Desert Spoon, Sotol (Dasylirion Wheeleri) gets its name from its leaves, which have a spoon shaped base. The flat, elongated leaves grow to be 2 to 3 ½ feet long and are silver/green or bluish green in color. It has tiny, creamy white flowers on a dense terminal spike that grows anywhere from 9 to 15 feet tall. The flowers bloom in mid to late summer. The plant looks much like and is often mistaken for the yucca plant.
