What’s the Difference? Lautner Edge Pool vs. Zero Edge Pool

What’s the Difference? Lautner Edge Pool vs. Zero Edge Pool

In contemporary pool design, two styles have gained significant traction, each offering a distinct visual appeal and unique features: Lautner-Edge Pools and Zero-Edge Pools. These innovative designs elevate the traditional swimming pool into an architectural statement, but they differ in their aesthetics and functionality.

What is a Zero-Edge Pool?

A Zero-Edge Pool is where the water flows over the edges, so that the water is level with the adjacent surface. This creates the look and feel of overflowing or “endless” water and a more immediate interaction with the pool (as opposed to “stepping in” to the pool). The look is crisp, clean and more modern in appearance.

A zero-edge pool is also referred to as:

  • Infinity Edge
  • Wet Edge
  • Perimeter Overflow
  • Spillover Pool

What is a Lautner-Edge Pool?

A Lautner-Edge Pool distinguishes itself as a variant of the Zero-Edge Pool. In this design, the pool’s wall remains hidden from view, seamlessly blending with the deck or surrounding edge. This highlights the interaction between the water and its adjacent surface in a striking manner. The result? An enhanced perception of size, a cleaner and sharper finish, and a closer proximity of the water to the decking as one approaches. The pool creates an illusion of borderlessness, achieving the optimal “mirrored” appearance sought in the pursuit of the Zero-Edge aesthetic.
